Respiratory Care

The Respiratory Care department at Monticello-Big Lake Hospital is staffed 24 hours per day 7 days per week by a staff of credentialed Respiratory Care Practitioners who are registered with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The department focus is on testing, treatment and education of various lung and cardiac disorders. Treatment is performed on hospital inpatients only, while education and testing are done on an outpatient basis. Our department provides both respiratory and cardiac testing. Below is a list of services provided.

Inpatient Respiratory Services include:
  • Nebulizer Therapy 
  • Ventilator Management
  • Non-invasive Ventilation
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Heliox Therapy
  • MDI Instruction
  • Respiratory Assessment
  • Conscious Sedation Monitoring
  • All staff are BLS, ACLS and NRP certified
 
Outpatient Cardiac Testing includes:
     
  • Stress Testing
  • Adenosine/Cardiolite Stress Testing
  • Stress Echo
  • Dobutamine Stress Echo
  • Holter Monitoring/Scanning
  • Cardiac Event Monitoring
  • Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring/Scanning 

Outpatient Respiratory Testing includes a full line of Pulmonary Function Tests: 
  • Spirometry
  • Pre/Post Bronchodilator
  • Diffusion Testing
  • Methacholine Challenge
  • Flow Volume Loop
  • Airway Resistance

Outpatient Respiratory Programs:

Pulmonary Rehabilitation:
This program is offered to adults with chronic lung disease such as COPD and Asthma. This 8-week course includes exercise and education sessions. Each session is two hours in length. For more information on our Pulmonary Rehabiliation Program, call 763-271-2322.
 
Asthma Education:
This is a one hour session designed to educate the patient and family in dealing with asthma and minimizing its effect on their lives. For more information on our Asthma Education Program, call 763-271-2256.
